If I cant just use a modem, what other items do I need to setup a wifi connection?

well it depends.. im guessing you have optimum.. if you want wifi using it.. u need something called optimum wifi.. talk to your service and they can explain how to set it up…
if you do not have optimum wifi.. you will need a router.. you can get one for really cheap ($30)
you connect the Ethernet from the modem to the router. . then you can use the router to connect to a wireless device.. simply go to your wifi settings and search for ur router..
MAKE SURE IT IS ROUTER FOR WIRELESS INTERNET

You need a wireless access point. Generally, the cheapest way to get one is to buy a wireless router since they include an access point.
