I’m working on my first build, and here’s what I’ve got so far:
CPU – Intel i7 950
Motherboard – Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
Memory – Corsair XMS3 3×2 GB 2000 MHz CAS Latency 9
GPU – GeForce GTX 480
HDD – Samsung Spinpoint 1 TB 7200 RPM
Optical Drive – Cheap SATA
Are all these parts compatible/appropriate for a mid-high end gaming PC? Also, I haven’t the first clue about how to go about picking a case and PSU for it. Thanks!

You have pretty much the same specs as I have. And yes it will provide great gaming performance. I would recommend Windows 7 as your OS because your graphics card is built for native DirectX 11 support.
I recently bought this case:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…
Good cable management, plenty of room, good cooling, some nice features, very good price.
And this power supply unit:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…
Industry standard, modular, never fails, has all the power you need
I would also reccomend you buy a decent aftermarket CPU cooler as well, the stock Intel ones are just plain crap, what with their push pins and all…
Good luck
you can buy them or select the one u want here
u can either buy case and psu seperately or as combo…
