It’s on by default. It’s already doing it. Follow the instructions on Apple’s website that you don’t seem to want to read on how to properly use multitasking.

Unfortunately Apple decided to use the iPod Touch 2g hardware for the 8 and 16 GB models. This means that you cannot multitask on them—only the 32 and 64 GB models can multitask as they use newer hardware.
That said, you can technically “jailbreak” the iPod Touch that you have and forcibly turn on multitasking. However, that said you may find that you’ll get undesirable slow downs as result. -
1st off, an 8gb iPod is a 2nd generation. Ever since the release of the new iOS 4.0, Apple has changed the 8gb version of iPod Touch from 3rd generation to 2nd generation. This is because the 8gb has the same hardware as the 2nd generation, while the 32 and 64gb have newer and better hardware.
Secondly, you cannot multitask using iOS 4.0 on an 8gb iPod Touch. The hardware does not support multitasking. The only iPods that support multitasking are 32gb and 64gb 3rd generation iPods.
The only way you can get multitasking is by jailbreaking and install a multitasking program from cydia. But this can be very risky: If the jailbreak fails, your iPod is basically ruined as there is little chance you can restore it. Also your battery life will significantly decrease, performance will noticeably decrease, and many errors and crashes may occur.
I recommend that if you really want multitasking, buy a newer iPod, wait for maybe a 4th generation iPod, or buy an iPhone. -
you don’t. you must have 3GS or 4 to multitask.
