Why Isn’t My 3d Movie Split Screen?

By admin Posted in: Samsung Mobile

I have a samsung 3d tv and a blu-ray player, i bought the glasses for a bunch of money and they came with a 3D copy of Monsters vs. Aliens. When i watch a program in 3d on cable it looks like a split screen image until i put the tv into 3d mode. When i put Monsters vs. Aliens in my blu-ray player it is not in split screen thus the 3D technology isnt as defined and “cool looking” as it should be. Is this a normal occurance or am i not understanding something? I feel like i wasted a lot of money.

The other responder said that 3D Cable TV doesn’t exist yet. That is false. Most developed countries (USA, Australia, Canada, SA and various others in Europe) already broadcast a select number of 3D Cable and/or Satellite TV channels (even if they are just for testing purposes at the moment).
The reason you don’t get the ‘split screen’ effect with Blu-Ray movies is because the way in which the 3D video is formatted for Cable TV is different to the way it is formatted on Blu-Ray Movies.
On 3D Cable TV, the video is split vertically into two individual left and right eye streams. When you watch a 3D Cable TV channel with a 2D TV (or a 3D TV in 2D Mode), you see the ‘split screen’ image with both the left and right eye views. A 3DTV can separate the left and right eye video accordingly and synchronize it with the left and right eye shutters on your 3D glasses.
With a 3D Blu-Ray movie, a newer 3D protocol is used to transfer 3D video to the 3D TV. If the TV only supports 2D or the 3D TV is in 2D Mode, the Blu-Ray player will only display 2D video (no split screen). If the player and the TV agree to playback the movie in 3D mode, the TV will again separate the video into left and right eye video streams and synchronize those views with your 3D shutter-glasses.
Also note that you must have a 3D Blu-Ray player (in addition to a 3D TV) in order to watch Blu-Ray 3D movies.
To confirm that you’re watching the movie in 3D mode, simply take off the glasses and look at the screen. If the image is blurry or ghosty then you are watching 3D content.
The 3D effect will vary depending on various factors such as:
    - The type of content (Sports, Movies etc.)
    - The technology used to produce the 3D effect (e.g. 3D conversion? 3D Cameras? Computer Generated 3D animation?)
    and
    - Whether the producer of the 3D content is trying to add depth to a scene or whether the producer is trying to pop things out of the screen (‘wow’ effect).
Most modern day 3D content producers and film directors try to use 3D effects in moderation. The growing trend is to add more depth to scenes while minimizing the ‘pop out’ effects. The pop effects are seen sometimes as gimmicky and distracting. The pop effects are also unnatural and can cause some people to have eyestrain or headaches, so they are used less and less now.
Some people think ’3D’ is all about the pop effects, so when they don’t see many things pop out of the screen, they are disappointed and feel ripped off. 3D is much more than just pop effects though, it’s about giving your brain the information it needs to generate a true stereoscopic 3D perspective of the objects on screen in such away that it becomes much more real.

3D technology is new and there are only a few 3d movies available. Cable tv does not have 3D yet. You have to read the owners manual of your tv. Without 3D glasses the picture does not look good at all. Beside that you also need a 3D blu ray disc player. Hope this will help you out.

there are 3 different formats for 3D in each tv in the menu sections. if one doesn’t work, then try the other
